Some people might think of WIC as the box-people, or the folks who build all those custom crates, and while they wouldn’t be wrong, they might be overlooking some new developments we’d like to share with you.
For about 15 years, WIC has been providing custom packaging and contract manufacturing solutions for clients in the medical-products field, and it’s really opened up some new pathways in our operations. Part of what makes medical packaging so challenging are the extremely high standards for quality control. When we create a package for a medical device, our work is often guided by the FDA to ensure it meets all the necessary requirements to provide the highest levels of safety and quality possible for the end-user. It’s not hard to imagine why – the delicate nature of the products we’re packaging, along with the life-saving services these products provide – all of this requires a high standard of care and attention to detail from start to finish.
For example, many of our clients use packaging or storage solutions made from wood because it offers a durable, cost-effective, and easy-to-modify material that’s great for a variety of applications. When it comes to medical packaging however, wood may be an unsuitable choice because it could introduce dust particles or other debris into the container.
The medical packaging industry has taught us a lot and really challenged the abilities of everyone on our staff, and definitely for the better. We’ve decided to take it to the next level, and just recently launched a new site, wicmedical.com. Using our understanding of the medical-device industry, along with staff creativity and our desire to improve the world around us, we launched a line of face shields during the pandemic this spring. It’s been a seismic shift on the part of our team, but it was exciting to leverage all of our know-how to venture out into this new arena to make a retail medical device. These aren’t the first medical-related products we’ve produced, but it’s the first time we’ve offered something directly to the public. And don’t think this is where we stop! We have some pretty exciting things in the works. We’re planning to debut some more PPE-related and other medical products in the near future. and we’ll certainly be keeping up with our masks, as the demand seems like it will be around for a while. On the production end, we’ll be enhancing our capacity as a contract manufacturer to better tap into the medical-packaging market. Before too long we may be showing you a clean room that will give us a greater-ability to meet those stringent FDA regulations, and of course we’ll always be pushing forward to offer the latest in materials and production techniques.
Do you know anyone who might be in the market for some high-quality, locally produced PPE products? Let us know! And if you’re looking at custom packaging or logistics solutions to enable the next stage of your organization’s growth, then you should definitely give us a call!
